As I announced earlier this year, I was selected by the Tampa Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations to represent the committee as a Terrell Sessums Young Leader at the annual American Committees on Foreign Relations Young Leaders Initiative, which takes place in Washington D.C. each year. The YLI takes place over a series of three days and is packed full of briefings, discussions, and educational experiences for students interested in foreign affairs and international relations.
Over the course of the conference, I had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Department of State hearing from civil service officers and foreign service officers, as well as a briefing at the Overseas Security Advisory Council, the Wilson Center, the Heritage Foundation, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. I also had the opportunity to speak with former Afghan Ambassador to Canada and France Omar Samad, as well as renowned economist Juan Zarate.
Thank you so much to the other young leaders who are some of the most inspiring and brilliant people I've had the pleasure of meeting, to the ACFR for hosting such an incredible event, and to the Tampa Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations for allowing me the opportunity to attend such a great event.
